Saffron is mentioned in the bible only once. It can be read in the Songs of Solomon 4:14 where it says that it is one of the aromatic plants in the ‘garden’ of the spouse. However the verse did not specifically mentioned that it’s oil was used.

“14 Spikenard and saffron; calamus and cinnamon, with all trees of frankincense; myrrh and aloes, with all the chief spices:” – Song of Solomon 4:14
It is named as Krokos in Dioscorides De Materia Medica, and it’s Latin name is Crocus sativus. It is used for culinary flavoring, domestic enjoyment, as well as healing remedies.

Medicinal properties
Some of its health benefits include the following: digestive, softening, somewhat astringent, and diuretic. (2) Topically applied it can soothe inflammation caused by a skin inflammation called erysipelas as well as ear inflammation. (2)
Aromatic properties
Its scent has been described as pleasant for having an alluring odor and a bit stronger or sharper) (2) The best of crocomagma or the saffron oil residue is sweet smelling. (2) Crocomagma is obtained after saffron oil has been processed and refined. (3)
Culinary Flavoring
Since saffron is flavorful it makes some dishes more palatable when it is paired with a saffron condiment. Even just a little pinch of it would give the dish a distinct saffron flavor. Thus making a bland rice or stew dish become tasty as it complements the dish by giving it an agreeable flavor to the dish. (1)
With it’s aroma and culinary and medicinal uses, it deserves to be included in the ‘garden’ of the woman in the verse above.
Taste and enjoy good flavors and scents 💋❤
