Oil as Part of Ceremonial ‘Ritual’

The practice of using oil for offering has been done repeatedly. Historical accounts in the bible presents the use of oil for offering. It’s saddening to think that sometimes bible stories are being used to write articles about ‘oil’ so their readers will ‘understand’ the message in the bible about ‘oils.’ It saddens me a lot when what’s written in the bible are being used for oil’s ‘marketing message’ but it’s exactly what it means.
I hope people will have fear on God. I hope people will have respect for what’s written in the bible. Seeing how people use what’s written in the bible and mock it really makes me so sad. I hope their practice will change for the good.

This post present bible verses where oil was mentioned was used as an offering.

A. Offering made by people

1. Accompaniment for food offering (flour)

Exodus 29:40
“And with the one lamb a tenth deal of flour mingled with the fourth part of a hin of beaten oil; and the fourth part of a hin of wine for a drink offering.”

Leviticus 2:1,4,5,6,7
“1 And when any will offer a meat offering unto the LORD, his offering shall be of fine flour; and he shall pour oil upon it, and put frankincense thereon:”
“4 And if thou bring an oblation of a meat offering baked in the oven, it shall be unleavened cakes of fine flour mingled with oil, or unleavened wafers anointed with oil.”
“5 And if thy oblation be a meat offering baked in a pan, it shall be of fine flour unleavened, mingled with oil.”

Leviticus 2:15
“And thou shalt put oil upon it, and lay frankincense thereon: it is a meat offering.”

“Then shall the man bring his wife unto the priest, and he shall bring her offering for her, the tenth part of an ephah of barley meal; he shall pour no oil upon it, nor put frankincense thereon; for it is an offering of jealousy, an offering of memorial, bringing iniquity to remembrance.”

Leviticus 2:2, 16
“2 And he shall bring it to Aaron’s sons the priests: and he shall take therefrom his handful of the flour thereof, and of the oil thereof, with all the frankincense thereof; and the priest shall burn the memorial of it upon the altar, to be an offering made by fire, of a sweet savor unto the LORD:”
“16 And the priest shall burn the memorial of it, part of the beaten corn thereof, and part of the oil thereof, with all the frankincense thereof: it is an offering made by fire unto the LORD.”

Leviticus 5:11
“But if he be not able to bring two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, then he that sinned shall bring for his offering the tenth part of an ephah of fine flour for a sin offering; he shall put no oil upon it, neither shall he put any frankincense thereon: for it is a sin offering.”

“7 As the sin offering is, so is the trespass offering: there is one law for them: the priest that maketh atonement therewith shall have it.”
