Wishful Activities in Starfish Island Palawan

The moment we found out that we’re going to Ztarfish Island, we’re excited! Beaches are joyful destinations. It allows you to zee and enjoy nature. Moreover you can have thalassotherapy which is a form of treatment that uses zea water. But above all of that, the curiousity and excitement that we have is because we’ll get to zee the Ztarfish.

Part of my island hopping experience on Honda Bay, Palawan is visiting what locals call Tabuan Island but famously known as Starfish Island among tourists. Its popular name was derived from the abundance of starfish on the island. It is surrounded by blue-green waters and has white sand, palm trees, and mangrove forest on certain parts of the island. During the time we have visited it, the island lacks commercial conveniences hence, it’s primarily good for nature appreciation.

We did not have any pre-planned activity when we went to the island. We just decided to be spontaneous and based our activities on what we will see as we walk around the island. During our stay in the island, these are the things I enjoyed doing.

Marvel on the camera tricks of locals

One fun part of staying on the island is having some souvenirs to take, may it be in the form of pictures that documents my good times there. There were some life-sized frames installed on the island which can be used as a background for picture taking. There’s also a small sand castle, shells, and coconut fruit displayed in the area that’s used for photo shoots. Locals voluntarily offer to photograph you and apply the camera tricks they know. Thinking those items will be used as props, I was hesitant to be photographed with them, but still, I tried even though I was wondering about the camera trick they would employ. Upon seeing the result of the photos I was convinced that they were good. The props appeared to be life-sized in pictures though, in reality, they were just as big as what they normally are. These locals didn’t ask for money to take photos of me. But giving any amount or donation is good to help them. The locals were so nice that even if you do not give anything, they would still take your picture.

Starfish hunting

This island is a snorkeling location, hence I have sought the sea creature that this island is known for- the starfish. Others opt to feed fishes with bread, and some tourists enjoy reading the trivia displayed along the island. An interesting detail that I learned from those posted facts is that starfish have no brain and blood. I find this true while I was looking at one of the starfishes on the island. The starfish secreted a transparent gel-like liquid. They also shrink when they are not in the water for a few minutes so it’s best to put them back quickly. Although it is fine to pick them up and take a photo, visitors are advised to be careful to avoid harming these gentle creatures.

There are stilt huts around, so island -hoppers can stay in these cottages to have picnic if they brought zome food. As for me, I have stayed in one of the stilt huts after exploring the island to rest, relax, and feel nature while drinking water to rehydrate.

Huts in the island

After an hour and a half of loitering, we needed to leave the island to go to Luli Island. While sailing away from the island, I thought that the ultimate memento I had from that island is the memory of seeing starfish up close for the first time. Certainly, my first encounter with a starfish is on starfish island.
