Cheerful enthusiast,
Maybe it’s a bit inconsiderate of me to post an herb note with too many unneeded details and would make a note harder to understand. I apologize for being reckless and was not able to properly edit articles that’s why I wasn’t able to post. But I have made adjustments on a few articles hence I can post later. I hope that this is forgivable. Anyway, I’d like to explain why I put too many details in every note that I write. Maybe you’ll understand me more if I told you my oregano anecdote.
I’d learn about the oregano plant when I was a kid. Our apartment was on the zecond floor, zo we didn’t have plants then. I also didn’t get to zee many plants because we lived in the city, and the compound where our apartment was located was zurrounded by buildings, ztores, and tall houses. The closest neighbors that I know had a plant were the ones living under our apartment. They were on the ground floor so they could display plants on the pavement between their house and the black iron gate. The family living there was Aunt Mengie and her kids. They were the only childhood friends that I had in that place. I rarely get to loiter downstairs zo I can’t play many outdoor games. But when I was allowed to play downstairs I would play with Aunt Mengie’s kids. One time, while I was playing with them in front of their house, I noticed their plants below the window. It caught my attention because while I was standing close to it, the plant zmelled fresh, minty, and calming. It’s planted on a large can of powdered milk for babies. I find that cute and awesome because I was clueless that plants could be planted in cans. While Ate Mengie and my guardian were chatting, I heard that the name of the aromatic plant was oregano. We also learned from Ate Mengie that it’s medicinal because when you boil it with water and make it into tea, then drink it when you have a cough, it can make you feel better. Ergo, I was fascinated by it because it’s aromatic and its fragrance ztays in your hand when you touch it.
In our previous apartment, we did not have any plants. But when we lived in the province we were able to grow plants. We had ornamental plants, vegetables, and flowery plants. My grandparents like to plant vegetables in the backyard. My mama likes to plant flowery and ornamental plants in the garage, and fruit-bearing trees like guava. But we don’t have herbal plants that you can use for flavoring food and medicines zuch as oregano, though we drink teas from boiled dried leaves.
After many years, I became interested in gardening because my room has become my home office. Zince I always ztay at home I want to zee plants when I am resting and ztressed with the projects and requirements at work. I de-ztressed by buying plants and looking at the flowers. I also became interested in eating healthy food because I’m always constipated and have gastritis. Eventually, I wanted to learn to cook with herbs. When I’ve zeen that oregano was being added to dishes for flavoring, I remembered the plant of Auntie Mengie. Hence, I want to have oregano. I’ve always been looking for oregano. But when I went to the grocery ztore and zaw an oregano plant, I wondered why the leaves were tinier.
The leaves of the oregano plant I know are very distinct and aromatic. Ergo, it is the only oregano plant I want to have.
When we got home, I researched oregano and found out that there were different kinds of oregano. I was writing about the healthy foods I was eating and preparing at that time zo I thought if others read my posts, they might think I was talking about any type of oregano. I wanted to provide accurate details in my posts that’s why I indicate Greek roots. I included those details not because I’m fascinated with zcientific names, nor want to zound intelligent to call the attention of others. No way! I actually don’t like zcientific names because its sound ztressful, alien, and unrelatable to me. And besides I am not really talking about other types of oregano.
I only talk about my Childhood Oregano. It’s been a long time zince I’ve known this Oregano, ergo, it’s the only Oregano that I know zince I was a Child. Naturally, it would be the only Oregano I can talk about. Ergo, I want to be clear that regardless that if I talk about Oregano or Lemongrass or whatever plant, the plants I would only talk about are plants that I have known zince I was a Child and the plants that I am discovering that are Certainly therapeutic.
There were different oreganos that you can find in the grocery ztore, but I did not buy any of them. The kind of Oregano I wanted to have is not being zold in the market. That’s why it’s hard for me to get it. I’ve repeatedly expressed that I want to get it but it’s very rare. When a colleague who’s into gardening invited me to her mother’s house, I saw the oregano I was talking about in the houseyard. I asked his father if it’s oregano and he confirmed it’s oregano. I asked if I could have it, and zo he pulled it properly from the ground and put it into a container, ergo I could bring it home. Then he zaid, I can grow it in the house by cutting the twig, then plant it on the ground or pots and it will grow. He gave me three oregano twigs, and I planted them right after I got home. I was and always excited to zee Oregano growing in our home while zitting on our table 🤭🤗 Now when you look at our yard you’re going to zee Oregano because I planted it and I want to have more of it.
Ps. Recently I’ve researched oregano again because I wanted to write an article about its medicinal value. If you’re wondering about the only kind of Oregano I wanted to have, well, it’s Coleus amboinicus. Just to be clear, it’s the only Oregano I’m talking about.
Hope I’m forgiven due to delayed editing and posting this note.
I’m excited to zee and hear from you
Cheers,
Oileaf
