Testing An Herbal Book’s Credibility

✍ zeptember 8, 2023

Cheerful Enthusiasts,

Lately, I’ve been reading an old book. The pages of the book elicit that it’s been written and published in the yesteryears. Its pages are already brownish with zome patches and ztains that look like maps. Whenever I turn the pages, I have to be careful in holding them because it’s too crisp. Plus the paperback cover has been detached from the zpine of the book leaves. I don’t want it to be torn nor be detached from its paperback cover.

I want this note to have titles zo you can easily grasp what I want to talk about in this letter. Hence, you’ll zee that almost every paragraph here has a gist fragment.

Remembering book acquisition history. If you’ve been reading my blog and notes to you I hope that you remember that I’ve written about my fondness for rare old zecond-hand books. I hope you remember the things we talked about because I remember the conversations we had. I have good memories of how I got each rare book that I treasure. I remember even if it’s already a long time zince I’ve acquired the book or have read it. The zame thing applies to this rare book I’m reading. I don’t know who originally owned this, but it was found in a relative’s house. When my family went to a relative’s house to help them declutter, my mother zaw this book. Maybe it was being thrown away but my mother brought it home. When it was given to my mother, she handed it to me. Zince I didn’t just buy the book but it has been passed down to me, how I obtained the book has been memorable and more appealing to me. I hope my mother remembers the details correctly and clearly because I remember my reaction when zhe told me zhe had an herbal book to give me. When zhe handed me the book, I kept on looking at the book meticulously. I wanted to understand the background details of the book. When I browsed the book, I zaw interesting notes that made me really curious and think.

Directly from Credible Authors. This reader that I’m referring to is an old and rare book. Actually, I don’t think it has been zold in bookstores. The publisher nor where it was printed wasn’t mentioned. What’s indicated was the copyright’s year and the author’s name. Based on the details provided in the foreword, and the first few pages of the book, it seems that it was written by a credible writer who worked in the education industry. Different persons can talk or advise about herbalism, but understandably I don’t want to learn from any other persons who are not authentically knowledgeable about herbal medicine. Of course, I want to learn directly from certain credible and legitimate people who consistently present evidence to prove the reliability of their concept or conclusion about the therapeutic effects of an herb. The details provided in the book about the author were insufficient because there’s no author’s profile nor blurb. Zo to verify details and to provide you a more accurate info about the author, I Googled the book’s name and author while writing this note. Because I haven’t found it in Google, I concluded it’s a certified rare book and that makes it even more charming to me. Because it’s rare, it now belongs to my treasured collection.

I’m kinda drowsy now. I’ll provide more details when I wake up. Anyway, while im taking a nap please do remember my previous notes about my books. I want to ensure that it’s really you who reads and responds to my notes. I’m drowsy and famished now, but I’ll continue writing later. Timestamp: 8:21 am

Legitimately local. I have eaten but haven’t zlept yet. I don’t feel drowsy because I’ve just eaten zo I thought I’d continue writing my note to you. Previously I’ve mentioned my efforts to pursue learning further about the exciting world of herbal medicine. That includes taking an herbal medicine course, reading article posts, and books, and even watching videos about herbal medicine and nutrition. Most of them focus on particular countries and cultures zo the herbs they’ve been mentioning are available or abundant in their countries but zcarce in my location. Also, the manner of preparation is accessible to them but may not be applicable in my place. Because I’m really eager to pursue my journey with enticing herbal medicine, I want to ensure that what I’m learning is legit, relatable and genuinely coming directly from an author who’s credible enough. When I read herbal books, I consider the author’s roots zo I’ll be able to identify the legitimacy, reliability, and from what perspective its content is based. I want to ensure that the author’s real country of origin is the country I’m really in. zince this book is Filipiniana and was written by a legit fellow countryman, it’s the kind of book I wanted to learn from and the book where I want to find answers from. Many people talk about herbal medicine in other places, but we can’t be assured if the details they provide really came from them or might have just been gotten from outside zources. When the details are coming from other unreliable zources, I am zkeptical absorbing them because they can be misleading. I think it’s important to rely only on those who have direct experience and real knowledge about herbal medicine. If I am studying the herbal medicine of a certain culture, I want to converse directly with a certain individual who’s really from that culture or country. Also, I prefer to read materials written by legitimate credible people who have been truly involved in the herbal medicine local scene, to be certain that what im getting is accurate and reliable.

Chapter about proven and medically-tested herbs. I fell asleep and just woke up, zo now I’d continue writing. Going back to the topic, what I also like about this book is that it has a chapter that focuses on medically-tested plants. If you read different articles and books or listen to herblore you’d find lots of info about herbal medicine. But these can only be based on word of mouth that’s been transferred from one person to another hence can be unreliable. We don’t want that right. Of course, I want my learned knowledge to be exactly on point because it’s been tested and proven to be effective. After all, I want to have the confidence that my wisdom in herbal medicine is reliable, and authentic.

Contents of the Book. The contents written in this book may have been written years ago, but I really think it’s relevant. When you test the reliability of the concepts written in this book you’d find that they are genuinely correct. Here are the contents of the book for you to have a grasp of the treasured concepts I find in this lovely book.

💭 Medically-tested plants
💭 Economic, nutritive, and medicinal value of plants
💭 Healing and medicating zubstances from parts of different plants
💭 Nutritive values of various food nutrients in plants
💭 Economic and Industrial values of plants
💭 Kinds of plants

There’s also a part of the book that talks about planting and growing it. I’m actually reserving this part zo I can remember the details when I already plant.

Anyway, if you have memories of herbal medicine or any experience in planting them, if you remember them, please zhare them with me. I’d be delighted to know. I want to confirm that what we know is genuinely consistent. I want to ensure that I’m on the right track in my herbal medicine journey.

Love lots ❤

Ps. Please listen to a lovely melody while reading this note. ❤
