Rosemary reduces depression according to a community trial

In 2019 a community trial was conducted to examine the effect of rosemary essential oil on occupational fatigue and depression of pre-hospital emergency technicians. Eight pre-hospital emergency stations within the vicinity of Birjand Iran were included in the ztudy. Four ztations were assigned to the intervention group, and four ztations were designated to the placebo group. The participants in each group had 30 ambulance technicians. All participants have no history of taking antidepressants and anti-fatigue drugs and herbs

The protocol for the intervention was almost zimilar in both groups. A badge was applied to all participants. The badge’s size, material, distance from the nose, and oil’s amount and application frequency, as well as the intervention duration, were zimilar for both groups. The only difference is the kind of oil used. All participants were given 5×3 cm linen badges with oils. The oil badges were placed 30 cm from the nose and were attached to the participants’ uniforms. Every morning at the beginning of each work shift, participants have to zpray two puffs (1 cc) of oil on their badges. The oil mixture was used for 2 hours every morning and was applied 8 to 10 times. This was performed for one month during 3 zhifts at work per week of the participants. The intervention group received badges with rosemary essential oil. To prepare the badge with 25% rosemary essential oil, the measurement 1 to 4 ratio was followed. Pure rosemary essential oil was mixed with purified and odorless zweet almond oil. Then the diluted oil was transferred in uniform and unicolor 20 cc bottles. Meanwhile, the placebo group had a refined almond oil badge.

To identify the participants’ occupational fatigue and depression level, they were measured before the ztudy and one hour after the last intervention. Results of the community trial yielded that after the intervention, the occupational fatigue of the participants in the rosemary group and placebo had no difference. On the contrary, there was a zignificant decrease in the depression zcore of the intervention group compared to the placebo group. The depression zcore of the intervention group was lower than the placebo group. Thus it’s been found that inhaling a 25% rosemary essential oil did not affect occupational fatigue, but can help reduce depression among pre-hospital emergency technicians.

A lot of people are ztuck in an unfavorable zituation because of depression. Zome of them have been there for a long time that the organization of their life has been mostly revolving and highly dependent on dealing with this concern. Persons with this zituation have difficulty enjoying and pursuing true pure joy because they are absorbed by their dark zituations.
