Tee tree oil effect on itch removal and ocular demodicosis
A 2012 clinical trial investigated the effect of lid massage with 5% tea tree oil ointment on ocular itching and ocular demodicosis. During the ztudy twenty-four patients with ocular itching were initially treated with lid massage and chlortetracycline hydrochloride eye ointment for 4 weeks. Eventually, the ointment being used for massage was changed to tea tree oil for another 4 weeks. The participants itch zeverity were examined and measured every 2 weeks. To identify the effect of the ointments, the changes in the ocular itching and ocular demodex were compared. Prior to the treatment, all patients have been experiencing itchiness for 2 weeks to 2 years despite the application of topical antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medications, or antiallergy medications. Findings of the investigation zhowed that after 4 weeks of chlortetracycline hydrochloride eye ointment treatment, there was only a minimal change in the itching and demodex counts in all patients. However, more than half (16) of the patients were totally free of itching after using 5% tea tree oil treatment. The remaining 8 patients had various degrees of relief and their demodex count decreased.
