Verifying the Effect of Red Rose Essential Oil on Dream Recall

Images and zcenes in our dreams can make us feel nice or bothered when we woke up, that’s why we try to recall and figure out the details of our dreams. Individuals may stubbornly wonder about their dreams and think of ways how to recall them even by resorting to using oils. Individuals who took an interest in oil therapy may even ask their aromatherapist to assure them that oil blends will help them not to worry about the difficulty of recalling their dreams. Know more about dream recall and oil blends in our weekly discussions.

Research about Red Rose Essential oil’s Efficacy on dream recall

A seven-night intervention using aromatherapy was conducted to identify the effect of essential oil on the frequency of lucid dreaming, recalling dreams, and sleep quality in 2016. The semi-experimental intergroup study enrolled twenty-six (26) Karaj Azad University female students to participate in the investigation and was divided into two experimental and control groups. The experimental group was divided into two and received either red rose or lavender essential oil, while the control group did not receive any oil treatment. (2)

The participants in the treatment groups were provided with the best possible zleeping environmental zet up and were asked to zleep on a cushion with a handkerchief on both sides every night. The handkerchief was perfumed depending on the oil that the participants were assigned with, and they were either red rose or lavender. Meanwhile, the participants in the control group did not receive any treatment. During the intervention period, all the participants were requested to write notes about their lucid dream in their recalling dreams notebook for seven nights. On the seventh day, all groups had to take the post-test. (2)

Findings of the study revealed that there’s no difference in the lucid dream and sleep quality of the three groups, but the result yielded that red rose oil has a significant effect on dream recall. (2)

Red rose effect on dreams

It was thought that the red rose essential oil can promote increased activity in the temporoparietal junction and medial prefrontal cortex, which are the brain parts that are linked to dream recall. (2)

In Iranian medical literature and aromatherapy practice, Red rose oil has been recognized as a mild but potent antidepressant since ancient times. (3) The anxiolytic property of the Red rose promotes its pacifying effect on a person. This helps with dream recall as relaxation can assist in increasing dream recall. (2)

Beware of Essential Oil Scams

In pursuit of finding natural therapies, people resort to trying aromatherapy and using essential oils. Sadly, these innocent people who are trying to look for effective cures can turn out to be victims of some oil vendors. Sales increase is usually the reason behind these oil scams. Allegedly, some distributors and resellers of select multi-level marketing essential oil companies are also spreading false claims for profit.

Typical scams and false claims related to essential oils

1. Oil’s purity

Some of the oils being sold are adulterated. They are not 100% pure essential oils. Some oils also do not show transparency on their labels, as some do not indicate that the essential oils have already been diluted with a fixed oil.

2. Therapeutic properties

There are some false claims about the therapeutic properties of essential oils. Sellers or coaches may tell you that a particular oil can heal but in fact, it’s not yet proven to be effective. As a matter of fact, one of the recent occasions when this happened was during the COVID-19 pandemic. Sometime in 2020 to 2021, there have been issues with some essential oil companies due to their claim about being effective in treating the COVID-19 virus. There are a lot of websites that you can visit, should you want to learn more details about this scam.

3. Country of origin

The country or region where the essential oil plant originates produces the best quality of essential oil. Particular regions in the world are known for their plant because it yields essential oils that are rich with therapeutic chemical components. Despite that two plants are the same or belong to the same botanical family, does not mean that they have the same chemical components. If they are planted in different regions, climate, and other environmental factors can affect their chemical constituents, hence may not have the same chemical constituents as those that are planted in countries that are known to produce plants and essential oil that have therapeutic active ingredients.

Since some are not aware of the importance of considering where the essential oils are produced, while others are aware and pay attention to it, there are essential oils that can be found in the market that do not indicate their country of origin. It is important to practice caution when buying essential oils, as some claim that it was produced or sourced from the country where the plant is known but it is not, because it was produced elsewhere. Meanwhile, some may transparently say where the oils were produced, but when you research the quality of the essential oil plant there, it seemed that it is not really known for that plant or it’s not as good and possesses therapeutic chemicals as from other regions.

Good thing, that there are some research reports out there that can verify us about the quality and therapeutic effects of essential oil. Also, there are some reliable videos and articles posts that can warn us about the scams and false claims.

To know more about scams that you have to be careful from, here’s a video about oil scams.

Things You Must Know To Correct A Bad Sleeping Hygiene And Have A Good Nap

Most people struggle with getting a good sleep. They spend a lot of time staying awake even though they’ve been trying to sleep for several hours already. A possible reason why people have trouble sleeping is because of their poor sleeping habits. They might have been doing this unhealthy routine for years, hence they struggle to have good sleep. Several factors contribute as to why these people are being prevented from having a good sleep. Sadly, people might have been doing two to three of these factors routinely for a long time already. Since they keep on going back to these poor sleeping habits, they have a long history of practicing these unhealthy habits, thus it seemed like it has been their tradition or custom.

Bad sleeping hygiene causes sleeping disorders

Below is a list of sleeping hygiene that results in sleeping disorders. I found this from a research I’ve read recently. We can see that unhealthy sleeping habits are influenced by ‘individual’ and environmental factors.

  • lighting a bedroom
  • existence of noise
  • consuming tea and coffee near bedtime
  • consuming caffeinated soft drinks near bedtime
  • consuming herbal remedies
  • pain complaints

In addition, the following factors can also contribute to sleeping disorder

  • deep thinking before sleeping
  • using phones before sleeping

Refrain from doing sleep-negative behaviors

If sleeping disorder has been your struggle for a long time, and you routinely practice and experience two to three or more of the factors mentioned above, it can be alarming. I think individuals should start to worry that if this has been their practice for a long time, how certain they can be that that they can do something to correct their unhealthy habits? I think individuals should start wondering if they can stop their sleeping disorders, and start having a good sleep by following good sleeping hygiene.

Lavender and Tea Tree Essential Oil Reduces Excessive Hair Growth (Hirsutism)

Hirsutism is an excessive hair growth that typically occurs in the face, neck, chest, stomach, lower back, buttocks, and thighs of women. Excessive hair makes women with this problem look more masculine. This condition is caused by the increase of androgen which is a male hormone. (1) Since the cause of hirsutism is androgen, androgenic substances that can block the male hormone effects in the body are needed to treat this condition. Lavender and tea tree oil are believed to have anti-androgenic activities, hence can help in the treatment of hirsutism. This has been proven by research.

Controlled trials that prove the reduction of hirsutism

The investigation of a 2013 randomized controlled trial on mild idiopathic hirsutism has shown that local topical application of lavender and tea tree oil is effective in reducing this health issue. Women with mild idiopathic hirsutism were employed in this study and were divided into two groups, the intervention group which received an oil spray that contains lavender and tea tree oil, and the placebo group. The oil sprays were to be applied on the hirsutism-affected areas, twice a day for three months. The effect of the oil sprays was evaluated at baseline and after three months. The result of the study showed that there was a significant decrease in hirsutism and hair diameter in people who received lavender and tea tree oil. Meanwhile, there was no significant difference observed in the placebo group. Moreover, the hair reduction diameter percentage was greater in the intervention group than in the placebo group. Regarding the hormones, there was no significant difference in the hormones of the intervention and the placebo group between the onset of the study and after three months.

Having a masculine look due to excessive hair is typically unnatural among women. Hence women with this issue prefer it to be eradicated. There are different synthetic drugs out there that you can experiment and play with to address this condition. With the desperation and eagerness to make this condition right, some may even abuse the use of synthetic antiandrogen drugs. Some may think that using these easy and user-friendly drugs can make them well, but in the process may cause more harm if they are not properly administered.

People with this condition must strive to get better. Due to some challenging circumstances, it may take time to process this. However, people must remember that whatever must be corrected in their health must be corrected. By striving to pursue to get better, and live as healthy Individuals, the unnatural condition and practices must be eradicated at the right time.

Remember to reduce harmful and toxic unnaturals ❤

Effectiveness of Virgin Coconut Oil in Treating COVID-19 Symptoms and its Role in Improving Biochemical Markers

When the coronavirus affected millions of people, it was difficult to find the right medicine. Different techniques to cure the patients were tried and a lot of medicines and vaccines have been recommended but caused doubts among individuals during the pandemic. Finding the natural and right remedy was a struggle and seemed to be rare. However, upon finding this coconut research, I am convinced that COVID-19 can be cured through the use of coconut oil and with the help of a Great physician. (I’m not a Great physician, I am just an individual who believes in oil therapy). Hence, I have trusted the effect of coconut oil especially if it has been properly administered.

To know more about the proven effects of coconut oil in treating COVID-19 symptoms and its impact on improving biochemical markers, read the research presented below.

Reasons why coconut oil is effective in treating covid19

Virgin coconut oil is a natural remedy that can help treat the symptoms of covid19 due to its antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties.

1. Antiviral

To treat covid19 symptoms, treatment plan should include the reduction of viral infection of susceptible cells. COVID-19 is caused by the virus SARS-CoV-2. The antiviral activity of VCO can help in improving the symptoms of COVID-19. Virgin coconut oil has anti-viral properties as its two fatty acids – lauric acid (C12) and capric acid (C10) and its monoglycerides – monolaurin (glycerol monolaurate) and monocaprin have antiviral properties. Monolaurin and lauric acid can cause the disintegration of the virus envelope, inhibit the late maturation stage in the virus replicative cycle, and prevent the binding of viral proteins to the host cell membrane. Meanwhile, monolaurin which acts as antibacterial and anti-viral helps boost the immune system. Monolaurin can kill different types of viruses, particularly enveloped viruses such as influenza and coronavirus 229E. Virgin coconut oil’s metabolites produce highly ordered membranes which can disrupt pathogens’ (organism-causing disease) cellular function such as viruses. Due to its antibiotic property, it is also used as a modulator of the cellular immune system. Other components of the virgin coconut oil such as capric acid (C10) and monocaprin also showed promising antiviral properties, particularly against HIV-1 infection, and other infections caused by a respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), human parainfluenza virus type 2 (HPIV2) and influenza-A virus.

2. Anti-inflammatory

Another treatment needed for covid patients is the clearance of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Inflammation plays a significant role in covid disease. Hence to treat covid, hyperinflammation must also be controlled. During COVID-19 infection, inflammatory chemicals are released and this results in hyperinflammation. However, this forces the immune cells to destroy healthy cells. When there’s a sudden increase of activated immune cells, lung inflammation, fluid build-up and even respiratory distress can occur. Virgin coconut oil’s anti-inflammatory properties can inhibit chronic inflammation. Its anti-inflammatory properties can be attributed to the phytochemicals in virgin coconut oil. Phytochemicals are a good source of antioxidants that can scavenge free radicals and toxic intermediates. This defense mechanism enables virgin coconut oil to sustain glutathione in the body thus decreasing inflammation, as glutathione has anti-inflammatory effect and can remove free radicals that can cause damage to the body.

Research that proves virgin coconut oil’s efficacy

A randomized double-blind controlled intervention trial evaluated the effects of virgin coconut oil on the symptoms and biochemical markers of patients that are suspected or probable cases of COVID-19. The intervention program was conducted for 28 days in Santa Rosa Community Hospital Isolation Unit (SRCHIU) and Santa Rosa Community Isolation Facility (SRCIF). These are two isolation facilities that can be found in Santa Rosa City, Laguna, Philippines.

63 adult patients who were suspected to be infected by COVID-19 were enrolled in the study. They were 20 years old and above and had been confined for 3 days or less than 3 days at the isolation unit facility. The patients were designated into two groups. The control group which received only the standardized meal, and the intervention group which was provided with a standardized meal mixed with virgin coconut oil. Virgin coconut oil dosage for the VCO group was based on the patient’s weight and the required VCO dosage per day. For days 1 to 3, 0.6 mL per kilogram body weight was given to the VCO group, and the oil was blended with meals served at breakfast. On days 4 to 28, the VCO dose was adjusted and increased to 1.2 mL/kg body weight and was mixed with the patient’s breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snacks. Evaluation to see the effect of virgin coconut oil on covid symptoms and patients improvement in terms of biochemical markers such as white blood cell count, lymphocyte count, CD4, and C-Reactive Protein (CRP) levels were measured three times at baseline or day 1, and on the 14th and 28th day of the intervention. Moreover, COVID symptoms such as cough, colds, body aches, headache, loss of taste, and fever were monitored daily. Then, the researchers compared the differences between the two groups and the periods of measurement.

Weight

After the intervention, the body mass index of the VCO group increased and their
weight increased by about 0.8 kg. Though this weight increase is not significantly different from the other group. By taking VCO, the intervention group ingested additional calories, this, and the limited physical activity in the isolation facility were concluded to be the reason why the patient’s weight increased.

Cholesterol

Cholesterol helps in building the structure of cell membranes, make hormones, helps metabolism, and produces bile acid (2) hence needed by our body to function properly. However, cholesterol must only be in the normal range as too high cholesterol can lead to coronary artery disease. The result of this presented research showed that after the intervention, the LDL-cholesterol and HDL-cholesterol level of the VCO group significantly increased, and was higher compared to the control group. Despite the LDL-cholesterol increase, it was still within the normal range. Despite that virgin coconut oil is high in saturated fat, it is high in medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs) which increases the HDL cholesterol. The high saturated fatty acids, lauric, and myristic acid content in virgin coconut oil could be attributed to the increase in HDL cholesterol. Some plant-based oils have polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fat, meanwhile virgin coconut oil is high in MCFA, hence does not increase the risk of coronary heart disease.

White blood

It has been said that medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs) and coconut oil metabolites influence the activity of the immune system. It affects the intestinal lumen’s epithelial lining and cytokine secretion to fight pathogens. VCO’s immunomodulatory property can suppress inflammatory cytokines. (1) Cytokines are small proteins that are crucial in controlling the growth and activity of other immune system cells and blood cells. (3) A type of white blood cell called T-cells or CD4 count which destroys bacteria, viruses, and germs increases when VCO as immunomodulator disturbs the membranes of microbial organisms thus destroying it as well as interferes with virus assemble and maturation, and increases macrophage activity (1) (Macrophages are white blood cells that surround and kills microorganism, get rid of dead cells and stimulates the action of another immune system. (4) Results of the study showed that there was no significant difference observed in CD4 (white blood cells) levels
in all of the participants before, during, and after the intervention. The CD4 count increased gradually from before the treatment to after the intervention program in both groups, but there was a significant increase among the VCO group, which shows that VCO has a positive effect on CD4 count.

Liver protein or C-reactive Protein

C-reactive Protein (CRP) is a protein that is produced by the liver. Normally we have low levels and CRP in the blood, but if we have inflammation our liver releases more CRP hence high levels of CRP mean that we have a serious health condition that causes the inflammation. (5) Before the manifestation of symptoms such as pain or fever, the CRP level usually increases. However, it drops as the body recovers, hence it is usually checked to monitor infections. In this study, the CRP level in the intervention group significantly decreased and eventually on the 14th day, CPR levels normalized compared to the control group. Before the intervention program, the patients’ CRP level shows that upon admission, they already have either an infection or inflammation. Upon the consumption of virgin coconut oil, the CRP of patients in the VCO group norrmalized as early as day 14. Meanwhile, the patients in the control group remained at the borderline until day 28. The rapid CRP level normalization in the virgin coconut oil group showed that VCO is effective in regulating inflammatory processes. This could be attributed to VCO’s anti-viral and anti-inflammatory properties of VCO metabolites.

Symptoms

The findings of the study also showed that the participants in the VCO group have faster relief from COVID-19 symptoms. As early as the second day of the intervention program, where the VCO group was only given a low VCO dose, 17%) of patients in the VCO group have already shown improvement in their COVID symptoms, while only 3.6% from the control group (no VCO) manifested improvement. At day 18 VCO group showed no more COVID-19-related symptoms, while covid symptoms in the patients in the Control group persisted until day 23. The patients in the VCO group’s early improvement could be attributed to VCO’s anti-inflammatory or immunomodulation properties.

While there are lots of available synthetic drugs out there that are expensive and might have side effects, make sure that you are making a wise decision.
