However, the constipation zeverity of zubjects in the intervention group decreased during the zecond and fourth week after the application. Findings of the ztudy demonstrated that this intervention method has resulted in softened ztool consistency, and decreased constipation severity. It has also reduced constipation-related zymptoms zuch as colonic inertia, ztool obstruction, and pain. Hence it has been found that abdominal massage with ginger and lavender oil on constipation is effective for elderly individuals (1)

Psychotherapy or talk therapy requires the appearance of a counselee while having a conversation with the psychologist. It could be ztressing when you can’t find or zee the purpose of why you visit a place. That’s what I experienced after learning that the details I was looking for were missing in the place I’ve been to. Ergo, I felt blue and lonely at that time. While I was walking on the cobbled road, I saw this cute red news ztand and its vendor. While walking towards them, I was wondering ‘Is it already near?’ I was excited to zee the vendors and have a chat with them. Our conversation is indeed an enjoyable encounter. Having conversations with people wherever you are is certainly calming and therapeutic.

Plaza Angel is a city park and public space in Angeles City where people could sit to order a cup of warm and hearty chocolate drink while seeing the important establishments in the city. Part of its view is the modest newsstand that has been there for decades.

The red newspaper stand across Plaza Angel serves as one of the attractive spots to see on the square. Small it may be, but its striking hue adds life and color to the heritage district. It balances the view and serves like an embellishment of the entire plaza.
The stall is made of metal and its roof’s shape has a resemblance to a ‘salakot’, a traditional headgear in the country. Jars of candies are placed on its window sill, while chips in tetra packs are hanging on its windows. Daily national broadsheets and weekly tabloids are both displayed in and out of the stand. While outdated newspapers are placed on its rack, reserved for students from nearby big universities who would need them for their assignments and projects

This noticeable little spot is owned and manned by the couple Conchita and Romy Lopez. Most of the locals who pass by downtown know them. Fellow vendors, jeepney drivers, and students oftentimes drop by their stall to buy an item from them or just chitchat with the aged couple.

Conchita has started working as a seller for a newspaper vendor. Working with him for about two years, enabled her to learn about the newspaper selling business. Eventually, she decided to start her own business and managed it herself. She has asked her husband to just join her to sell newspapers, after seeing how hard her husband’s work is in the construction site. When Mt. Pinatubo’s erupted in 1991, their modest wooden stand was damaged when the lava flowed through the market where their stand was originally situated. Hence they have transferred to their current location, built another wooden stall, and still have remained to sell newspapers. After several years, they revamped their stall and changed the wooden structure into metal by complying with the local ordinance in beautifying the district.

Conchita shared that aside from having the skill to run a newspaper-selling business, she intentionally opted to pursue it because newspapers are not being rotten. Also, it’s practical since you could return what was not sold. However, practical doesn’t mean comfortable and without challenges. Selling newspapers means you also have to be willing to face the downsides of it. Some of the challenges they encounter include weather conditions. They should open their little kiosk despite the heat of the sun or heavy pouring rain. Since what they sell is made of paper and they are staying outdoors, they have to be resourceful and vigilant in protecting and covering their goods, and themselves. Moreover, due to the rise of online publication, the demand for newspapers has diminished and sales were unlike before.

When asked why they have opted to remain in newspaper selling, the couple answered because it is where they have started. They were also able to send their three children up to college through their income from it. Even up to now, this business is still important to them, since it is their source for providing for their daily living expenses. Moreover, they like that the business keeps them busy instead of just staying at home and waiting for their children to come home after work.
The couple likes the place they are in. It makes their work feel less like work. They are entertained by participating and seeing the activities of the bustling city. That’s why even though they sometimes struggle to pay the rent, they work hard to be able to sustain paying it. They have remained in the newspaper-selling business and the same location for years. They even intend to stay longer. The only thing that changed is their opening time and their stall has become sturdier and more attractive.

The couple is content with the small business that they have. If they still have one more wish at present, that is to have their own home. They are happy that selling newspapers and candies provides them income they can use for their daily needs. But it is not enough to buy a house and or even enjoy luxury. Conchita is hopeful that if she works hard in selling newspapers, they will have their own house. During the interview she shared.

The couple has been selling newspapers in the same place for more than two decades. The students who used to be their regular customers have become parents now, and some of their buyers at present are the children of those students. Selling newspapers in Plaza Angel for so long has enabled them to evolve and develop along the changes in the heritage district. Over time, they’ve witnessed the plaza’s transformation from being a simple public place to a revamped park with heritage houses turned museums.

Clay is therapeutic. Pottery therapy which is a form of art therapy is one of the relaxing activities you can do while being creative and making your hands work. Typically generous pottery zhops would offer free workshops where you can write your names or quotes on the clay mugs or pots you bought from them. During our visit to a pottery factory, they taught us the traditional way of making pots. They even showed us the clays they’ll be working on to make a new collection of potteries. This post is an old ztory from our outdated private blog. We republished it for those who research where to find places they can do pottery therapy.

Visiting artisans has been one of the activities I’ve been looking forward to whenever on travel because it gives me an idea of how things are made manually during the old times. Hence, when I was able to visit Ilocos, the jar-making factories in Pagburnayan district has been one of the activities I’m thinking about. The word ‘pagburnayan’ actually came from the Ilocano word ‘burnay’ which means hand-crafted jars or earthenware pots. Since clay potteries and jars were in demand before, this district has been known to produce it. However, since these pots are manually made by the hands, require skills to be able to do it, plus the demand for the use of pottery has decreased, pottery making has slowly become a dying art and almost being forgotten. Ergo, I felt I was fortunate to visit Pagburnayan district where the art of pottery-making still exists. I was happy to see it before this art gets extinct.

Upon seeing the unimposing entrance of the jar factory, you would instantly know that they’re selling pottery. It displays different styles of terracotta pots and jars in its front yard. Here, you’d see simple designs, but as you go inside, you’ll find an array of pots, jars, and vases in different styles, shapes, and sizes. By exploring the small factory, you’ll easily find their workshop area even if it has no signage. Visitors can sit here to watch or try jar making.

A potter will show you how pots and jars are made from clay. They would do a short demo on how to form it before allowing you to try it. The pottery maker will initially ask you to sit while he’s putting a glob of clay on a platform with a manually pedaled rotating disk. Then, he will spin the base with his foot and will ask you to form the jar with your hands. He will guide you on how you should place your hand and how much pressure you should put into it. However, in the process of doing it, you must expect that mudstains may cling to your clothes and fingernails. Once the jar is formed, it is then left to dry a bit, but be reminded that you will not be able to take your own formed jar because it has to be placed inside massive kilns to be cooked and this takes a bit of time. Due to time constraint, I was not able to see how these jars were cooked on a hot and smoky kiln.

For some reason, I was mesmerized by just watching how others shaped the clay pots with their hand while being guided by the potters. I wasn’t able to try it since other visitors also like to do it. I just contained myself in observing. It looks easy but once you’ve seen how delicate the jars and pots being formed can be, you would understand that jar and pottery making requires skill and artistry to make well-formed pottery.

During the time I went there the pottery workshop is for free. They did not charge us anything. However, you can buy their products to show gratitude or appreciation for their art. The jars and pots here are good mementos to remind yourself about your pottery-making experience. Meanwhile, if you’re not buying, we can still show your appreciation by giving a tip for their effort and any amount would be much appreciated. As the adage goes, ‘Though donations are not compulsory, they are of course appreciated.’

This dying art may be something you don’t appreciate yet but upon seeing pottery making first-hand, you might develop an interest in it. Despite that it is a short visit, and I have just observed how jars are being formed, it has provided me with something to take home. That leveled up my appreciation for this art.

Calle Crisologo is a cobble-stoned street in Vigan with Spanish period rustic mansions left and right. This is one of the most photographed streets in the country hence allowing anyone to appreciate its beauty even in pictures, however, spending time and loitering in this street would allow you even better to grasp its charm and rekindle that slow lifestyle back in the yesteryears. In my bumming around it, there are activities that I liked the most that really enabled me to enjoy this antiquated street.

1. Calesa Ride
Calle Crisologo seems to be automatically associated with the Calesa ride. Here, calesa which is a horse-drawn carriage seems to be the king of the streets. It is usually suggested as one of the must-experience activities here because it gives you the experience to ride a century-old form of transportation while conveniently sightseeing different heritage houses. It is a normal sight here to see passing calsesas packed with tourists. While enjoying their ride it makes you realize that what seemed to be normal in the streets back then has become rare. This results in making yesteryears’ usual places become world heritage sites that are being flocked by modern tourists.

2. Eat ‘Sorbetes’ or Ice Cream while walking
For some who do not prefer to ride the Calesa and just want to really appreciate every nook and spot in this street then you may opt to walk on Calle Crisologo. This will give you an authentic experience of walking on cobbled streets and get a feel of walking around old towns in European countries. But don’t just solely stroll, you may opt to eat ‘sorbetes’ or ice cream while walking. This will balance the scorching heat of the sun, especially in summer with the coolness of the ice cream. Also, the taste of this sweet delight will just make you cheerful enabling you to walk even further. Buying ice cream won’t be a problem as ‘sorbetero’ carts are almost everywhere. At the time I visited this place, most of the ‘ sorbeteros’ or ice cream vendors sell dragon fruit flavor sorbetes as it seems to be the flavor of the month or in season.

3. Sit on sidewalk benches
Now if you have gone tired, or you just want to have a lazy late afternoon then you can sit on the benches dotted along the street. This is a place where sitting along the sidewalk street doesn’t make you look like a vagrant but just someone who wants to savor a slow-paced living. Sitting on the street benches allows you to see people from different walks of life passing and doing their business in the busy calle. This includes locals doing their trade, tourists strolling and shopping, and children playing

4. Street photography
No matter what angle you look at this place it is just so photogenic. Certainly picturesque everywhere. If you are into photography then you would certainly appreciate this place. You can’t help but snap photos at each corner and spot that you pass through to have it as your souvenir. You might also develop an interest in aged doors as you see different styles of antique doors from different heritage mansions along the street. For that vintage background for selfies, this place allows you to just effortlessly have it.

5. Hunt for souvenirs
Aside from being known as a heritage street, Calle Crisologo can also be considered a street of souvenirs. Here you can hunt for antiques, furniture, and other home decorations. One of the most famous souvenirs that can be bought here is miniature furniture which tourists are usually fond of seeing. This can be found in almost all of the souvenir shops along Calle Crisologo

6. Drink coffee or dine in cafes housed in heritage structures
Some cafes use vintage furniture and fixtures to have that quaint vibe, but in Calle Crisologo the cafes are oozing with that vibe effortlessly. Here, the ground floor of the old mansions are used for commercial and some are occupied by homegrown cafes from simple to known ones. Drinking a cup of coffee at any cafe here enables you to have that authentic experience of dining in a coffee shop that’s placed in a heritage edifice. While dining, or sipping your warm coffee, you might also want to feel like a local and talk to locals or you may just sit and observe fellow tourists relaxing as they drink their refreshments, or you can also just watch the activities taking place outside from where you are sitting.

6. Staycation at a hotel near Calle Crisologo to explore it at dawn
Exploring Calle Crisologo at dawn is something I haven’t done but have been looking forward to doing. The street is beautiful and warm during the day but puts on a different interesting face at night. This kind of ambiance stays until before the sun shines in the morning. At dawn, the light is soft, the street is quiet and still empty, the souvenir shops and restaurants are still closed and sidewalks are stripped bare from walking tourists and displayed souvenirs. This makes it a perfect time to enjoy the street by yourself. It provides you a great opportunity to freely take pictures at every side and corner of it. Ergo, when I have the chance to go back to this street, this activity would be on my list.

We make each of our handcrafted products and handwritten labels from our humble abode. A bedroom from our home that we like to call our aromapothecary haven serves as our workshop area. It is the location where all our writing and oil blending activities take place.
We started making our label from a page of an old notebook that’s been picked up from an old box nestled in our aromapothecary place.
Each of our oil blend’s name is inspired by the people that we love. To create the label we used purple, blue, and orange pens to write the names. We colored the paper using blue markers to make sure that the notes can be easily seen. Then, we stick the paper on the amber bottle using scotch tape.
But, the oils on zome bottles leaked zo the notes on the labels have become untraceable and oily.
Our collection of products has also increased, so we realize that we must provide more details on the labels. We want to ensure that we’ll know the names of each blend and the health concern it addresses.
Ergo, we thought its best to use durable and writable materials so we can include more product details. Plus make the label design look cleaner and dainty.
To create the revamped version of the handwritten labels, we used white matte sticker papers. We also used a sign pen to write the name of the oil blends. We included the basic details to ensure that it would fit on the adhesive paper.
We manually cut the labels according to the size of the amber bottles.
Then we peeled off the nonsticky side and place the adhesive part on the amber bottle.
After firmly attaching the labels, we put them in an accessible drawer. We want our labeled products to stay clean with writings that are easily recognizable, and readable.
As we progress, we develop a new label for consistent branding. But… we want to ensure that we ztill continue doing the handwritten labels. We like to maintain this label-making tradition for certain occasions and eligible orders.

This zmall restaurant is housed in an old house that makes it difficult to find. But dining on its outdoor tables is definitely relaxing while looking at the plants it is zurrounded with.

Discreetly tucked along the highway is this unimposing little restaurant with a somewhat primitive fence. Serving comfort food with that feel-good vibe of reggae music, where else would we rather be for a swift bonding before going home.”
This is my story on Instagram after eating at Kusina.Kom. This restaurant with a laid-back ambiance is teeming with professionals after work to grab a bite and unwind. Despite having a small space, it has strategically been able to place six tables inside with three tables for two diners and another three tables for four. It also has three tables outdoors where people who’d like to have a view of the road and enjoy al fresco dining can stay in. Despite being placed beside the highway, diners would still find comfort in eating outdoors. There’s also a wooden small fence that serves as a barrier between the sidewalk and the outdoor dining area to keep the diners safe. This fence makes the restaurant looks charmingly rustic.

Meanwhile, you will find recycled knick-knacks for embellishments inside. One of the decors I appreciated the most is the recycled wooden chair backrest that’s hanging on the wall. Despite that it is just reused, it has elevated the look of the restaurant and serves as the highlight display and brought the antique feel vibe of the place. Another noticeable decor is the fan where its blade is designed to look like a clock. Other displays in the bistro are those items that are normally piled up in old dusty rooms. Electronic lamps hanged on the wall warmly lits the place hence giving the ambiance a more dramatic effect.

This place is popular among professionals who pass by it and have become regular diners here. Also, it is well embraced by the locals since the bistro is serving too affordable yet tasty meals. The community in the neighborhood can go here to dine when there’s no to cooked food at home, hence providing convenience among households at a very affordable meal.

To reach Sirao Garden, you would have to go to an uphill location. It is a flower farm located in the mountain village of Sirao, hence its name. Since it is hours away from the main city, some would suggest hiring ‘habal-habal to avoid the stressful commute. In my case, I got here by private car since it is part of my private tour in Cebu. Meanwhile, as soon as you ascended the sloppy mountain roads, enjoy the ride and look at the views, in a little while, you’ll see a strip of sari-sari on both sides of the road. This will serve as the hint that you are already near the gate of the pictorial garden.

On its facade, you would see that it bears the name Sirao Pictorial Garden and Camping Site. Keep in mind that there are two Sirao Gardens which are the original Sirao Flower Garden and the Sirao Pictorial Garden and Camping Site. The first one is focused on being a flower farm while the latter is a resort with a swimming pool, fountains, camping grounds, and lots of Instagram-worthy spots.

Since we came in the morning, the place was still not crowded. I was able to catch the sunrise in the flowery fields which allowed me to have a good view of it. Aside from the flowers, the gardens are teeming with unique and eye-catching attractions such as the Bali-inspired swings, a pool at the top of the mountain, giant LOVE, hanging hats, floating umbrellas, hanging ‘kubos’ or tree houses, ‘Pinas Tore’ windmill replicas, Bali-inspired big nest and the giant hands. With all these features combined with the flowery fields and mountains as the backdrop, you would expect that any photographer or any Instagrammer would see this as a perfect photoshoot paradise.

When you visit this pictorial garden, take lots of photos, after all, it is what it is intended for. I have not really visited this place to have selfie pictures but to appreciate the view, sit for a while, and enjoy the cool breeze. Beyond that, this garden has also allowed me to enjoy floral photography of blooming flowers such as the celosia, flora hyacinths, dwarf sunflowers, marigolds, and cosmos.

Mudhuts with flowery pathway
Glamping or glamorous camping is something I haven’t experienced before. Thinking that it would be inconvenient and uncomfortable, I often opt not to pursue such activities like it. Apparently, in December, I was finally convinced to join. The chosen glamping site is on a mountain resort in Bataan which is nestled in an upland village located on the periphery slopes of the mountain ranges of Mt. Natib. Hence, when our van has been gliding along the paved and dirt roads as it ascent to the foothills and slopes of Mt. Natib, it’s really getting into me that I am about to embark on ecotourism.

This used to be a reservations-only mountain resort where accommodations are independently owned and operated. Hence, one property cannot accept bookings on behalf of other properties and will not be able to respond to any queries on rates and availabilities of rooms per day. Therefore guests should contact the respective properties directly for reservations or inquiries. The rate of accommodation may vary as to the house type and room type, however, all overnight guests have free entrance to the resort and adventure park.

However, in our case, none of those choices would be our temporary home for the night because we are set for glamping. For our accommodation, we would be staying in mud huts or clay huts. This is perfect for people who want outdoor accommodation to reconnect with nature and appreciate modest living. The building technology and materials used in these mud huts are environmentally friendly hence made consistent with the ecotourism thrust of Sinagtala. They made it using cement bonded board, with recycled agricultural waste making it as clay. The mudhuts also comes with bamboo shavings for walls, roof, and wooden panels. These glamping suites are spacious. They have a high ceiling that will allow you to move freely without feeling restricted or confined even when you stand up and move around. Each mudhut could fit a group of three to four persons. Also, these mud huts are modestly furnished, clean, and organized. It includes a toilet and bathroom. Zoft beddings and two sleeping mattresses are also provided. The non-airconditioned mudhuts includes an electric fan for ventilation. Moreover you can open the window to allow the cool breeze to enter the hut. The clay suites’ interior has no decorative elements but the view of lush surroundings and colorful flowers are enough to provide you majestic zceneries.

Since it is glamping, it is expected that there is no room service. Actually, all the accommodations in Sinagtagla don’t provide room service because each establishment has a different owner. Sinagtala has two restaurants, the Sinagtala Cafe which serves local cuisine and offers a wide selection of soups, noodles, grilled and sizzling dishes, and the Tampay Cafe which is located at Tampay House. The latter serves coffee, pastries, and light meals. They also sell Kafe Sinagtala which is their very own cultivated coffee.

Sinagtala originated from the Filipino word ‘Sinag’ which means shine or light and ‘tala’ which means star, hence, Sinagtala literally means starlight. It was named after being able to have a sky view and see starlight at night in this place. Ergo, one of the moments I enjoyed here at night is staying outside while looking at the sky, and wondering which star shines the most. The sound of insects probably crickets can also be heard and they show up in places with light. Moreover, since I stayed here in December, I felt the cool gentle breeze kissing my face. Air conditioning is not necessary at night, because the mud huts naturally have an airy ambiance.

Meanwhile, in the morning it is good to wake up early to catch the beautiful sunrise with the infinity pool on the backdrop. The dramatic view where the fog that envelops the mountain slowly fades as the sun’s interchanging colors appear in a matter of minutes as the sun rises.
Sinagtala Park
As soon as the sun shone, I had my breakfast and started to roam around the property. While sauntering I thought what this place was like before. Previously it was occupied by informal settlers from Batangas. They introduced coffee trees in the community, hence the place has become a coffee plantation. However, when Mt. Pinatubo erupted and lahar rainfall covered the area, the owners lost a lot of the coffee trees and their livelihoods, so they sold the property. In 2001, it was purchased by Tala Properties, Inc. Initially, the land was almost covered with cogon, hence the owners didn’t notice right away the stunning views of the place. The owners have developed it as a tourism area after the magnificent view was spotted by an architect-environmentalist. Developing the resort included constructing roadways, connecting water lines, and electrification. Despite that it has been developed, the settlers from Batangas were not evicted but were actually given employment opportunities. Amenities and facilities were constructed which includes infinity pools with mountain view, a multipurpose hall, a chapel, and villas for guests. The first house to accept overnight guests is the Duyan house which features six rooms. Then it was followed by Beacon, Tampay, and finally the Tanawin Houses. As of writing, there are additional houses like the Labuyo Villas, and the privately owned structure named Tarictic House. This community focuses on ecotourism and aims to maintain harmony between environmental sensitivity and economic development.

At the time of writing, the community has agreed to use only a portion of the land for building structures. The owners opted not to touch the rest of the land to preserve its beauty. While exploring its compound I marveled at the structures they erected around it. In the front part, there’s a chapel and multi-purpose recreational hall. It also features function halls, native-style picnic huts, a three-level treehouse, a playground with swings, and a grilling area with faucets and water supply for cooking preparations. There are also floral gardens and two infinity pools. The first pool offers a good sky view and its waters seemingly cascade down the mountainside while the other is the lagoon pool. There are also private houses and more accommodations options that are owned by different shareholders.

The adventure park features adventure trails, mud huts, and a lagoon pool. This phase also boasts amenities for adventure activities. It has a hanging bridge, an air cycle or sky bike, a giant swing, a zip line, and hiking trails. The park also offers a nature trek that ends in a river. Ergo, this part of the land provides you with exciting adventure activities while glamping.
